In 2021 Samson had made a substantially large sale worth somewhere around $50,000. The employees were excited as well, because this revenue could mean raises, upgraded enclosures for the animals, or general quality of life improvements to the facility.
Instead, Samson turned around and spent the money on a tegu breeding project from Josh Ortiz, and the enclosures that would be needed to house them. Somewhere between 200-300 tegu were brought to the facility. The workload was already impossible to manage, but Samson's greedy nature only saw an extra avenue to potentially make money, claiming that these tegu would just be popping eggs out left and right when breeding season came. The upkeep was impossible. There were a few tegu that even managed to escape and were never caught. These poor animals suffered because of greed and neglect.
Due to improper setup during brumation, there were boxes full of tegu that died. Because neither Samson nor Cassandra were on top of checking on the tegu inside the RV bus that the tegu were being brumated inside, despite it being parked directly next to their house, the dead tegu were not found till they had started to bloat and rot, and the smell permeated to the outside of the bus.
